Soul Cafe Hampers Of Hope

Our company values here at Bombora reign strong even through adversity. 2021 has been a year of unique challenges, for us here at Bombora and throughout the world. Bearing in mind the situation with lockdowns, and limiting our staff on site, we decided to embrace our company values in a different way than our usual Bombora Family lunch and secret santa exchange. We decided to feed our souls rather than our bellies by donating to Soul Café.

Soul Cafe was established in August 2003 with the admirable intention to serve hot meals free of charge to the highly disadvantaged people of the Newcastle region.

Soul Cafe provides hundreds of free sit down and take away meals each week, and extending that kindness within the community by taking donations for “Hampers of Hope” for Christmas, which will be distributed to vulnerable guests of Soul Café.

Many of Soul Cafe’s guests are dealing with adverse circumstances of homelessness, escaping crime or violence, poverty, separation, mental health or illness concerns and accommodation needs. You could understand how the simple gift of a hot meal this Christmas could restore hope for those in need.

Soul Cafe’s desire is to do more than just serve a meal. The ultimate mission of Soul Cafe is to see vulnerable cafe guests placed on a path towards increased safety, health and purpose. The aim to lift a group of people that are less fortunate to a greater level of lifestyle within our community through a comprehensive approach that assists them to work through their individual issues and to re-engage back into society and the community.

As such the meals provided are an avenue to link cafe guests with other necessary services including accommodation links, Centrelink referral, mental health counselling, refuge referral, drug and alcohol and substance abuse programs, haircuts, Legal Aid, Podiatry and a free doctor’s clinic.

Soul café is non-government funded and rely primarily on financial sponsorship from corporations and individuals and to a lesser extent on their own fundraising endeavours. They are a local community organisation addressing local community needs, supported by local community corporate and private members.

The team at Bombora came together to donate a plethora of items including lots of savoury and sweet canned goods, tasty treats, fruit packets, hygiene items and lots more – contributing a grand total of 3 cartons of food and 4 bags of items to share with disadvantaged members of our community in Newcastle.
