What makes having a GE Fridge Filter so beneficial?
The water filter reduces chlorine taste and odor, sediment, lead, cysts, and turbidity in your water and ice. It eliminates the expense and inconvenience of purchasing bottled water at a store or scheduling home delivery of bottled water. In many cases the filtered water is even superior to bottled water quality in terms of purity.
GE’s NSF-certified GSWF slim replacement refrigerator water filter—part of the company’s SmartWater filtration series—provides the whole family with better-tasting drinking water at home. By reducing contaminants like lead, sediment, cysts, cryptosporidium, turbidity, and giardia, as well as by decreasing the chlorine taste and odor in ice and water, the GSWF is a safe and affordable way to maintain a hydrated and healthy lifestyle.
How long should my GSWF GE Fridge Water Filter last?
Refrigerator manufacturers strongly recommend that fridge water filters be replaced at least every 6 months or when the "change filter" light comes on. However, if you notice the clarity or taste of your water changing, that's the best indication that it's time for a change! A routine 6 month change-out cycle ensures that your water stays fresh and your refrigerator's ice & water mechanisms are protected from corrosion.

How do I install my new water filter?
It's easy to replace with no special tools required. No need to even turn off the water. Simply turn the filter to the left to remove. A check valve stops water flow and prevents leakage.
Installing your new water filter:
- Turn the old cartridge left (counter clockwise).
- Pull the filter out and discard (the water will shut off automatically).
- Peel off the protective cover from the new cartridge.
- Fill the replacement cartridge with water from the tap to allow for better flow from the dispenser immediately after installation.
- Insert the new cartridge, lining up the arrow on the cartridge with the cartridge holder.
- Slowly rotate the filter right (clockwise) until the filter carttidge stops. Do not over tighten.
- Run water through the dispenser for 5 minutes to purge the system.
Reset the "change filter" indicator light by pressing and holding the Water Filter Reset button for 3 seconds.
